The thing that makes me angry is when people assume they're being treated a certain way because of the color of their skin. Like the guy today who got pissed at me because when he asked me for five ones for a five I told him to ask the bartender because I don't keep cash on me (I bus tables at Maspero's and bussers are known for taking tips; I avoid this entirely by not bringing cash). I was polite when I said this but then he started mumbling under his breath. I caught the words 'black' and 'white' a few times but ignored it. The bartender changed his five for him, told him to have a nice day, and then went to help her other guests. He starts calling "Hey, hey, hey you" at the bar to her while she's talking to customers so she goes back and asks him if he needs anything else. He says, "You needa give me a cup of ice." She tells him she can do that for fifty cents. He turns away from her and starts telling me how it's racism that she just won't give him the cup and how because he's black and we're white we're treating him like this.

Yeah, I went off. Not loudly, but firmly. I told him he was correct, that it was because he was black, and the fact that there are black people in my family and I have black friends makes me a full time racist. I told him that because I was white, not that he was an asshole, was the whole reason he got treated whatever way he thought he was treated. Then I told him to have a very nice day and to leave. I walked to the back before he could say anything back.

Just because this is 'technically' the south doesn't mean that everyone has a fucking klan outfit hanging in their closet.

Maybe some people need to realize that perhaps people treat them like shit because they're an asshole; not because of the color of their skin.

When I worked at Target this elderly blind lady (who was white) came in with her (black) grandchildren. She put her credit card in the machine and it was declined. I told her so, and apologized. She told me not to, because it wasn't my fault.

The little boy looks at me and goes, "It's only doing this because you've got two black kids with you."

Before I could say anything the lady goes, "Now, dear, the card reader doesn't know your black."

When he said the statement it was said towards me, like I had something to do with it. I glared very hard but didn't say anything.

As a side note, I'm 1/2 mexican, but I'm very white. And whenever someone says "You're only treating me this way because I'm black." I always say, "Yeah? Well, you're only treating me this way because I'm Mexican."

hahahaha! That is great! One of my closest friends is Puerto Rican and black guys hit on her all the time. When she turns them down they call her a racist... she then tells them, "Yeah, that's what for the past eleven years I've been going home and fucking my black boyfriend."

Snap judgments on people based on your own insecurities= not cool, and often not accurate.
