History has happened

I've voted in every presidential election since I've been able to (and never for the winning side, btw) and some other elections in between when it was about something that matter to me. The thing that has angered me the most recently is when Nagin was re-elected. I may not live in Orleans Parish but I work there and function there. My college is also there. I basically use Jefferson Parish to sleep and buy groceries. It angered the fuck outta me that something so important was happening and I couldn't voice my opinion in it. Nagin, for those not familiar with Louisiana politics, is an idiot.

I woke up this morning excited, nervous, and terrified all at once. I woke up ready to vote, and overly excited to do so. After finding out that I went to the wrong poll place (I thought I had moved my registration when I switched my address on my id, apparently I didn't) I had to go to where I was actually registered which had absolutely no line! I walked in, took my son into the booth with me, and explained everything to him about the different parties and how voting worked. I wore a hoodie but under it was my Obama shirt 'cause there was no way in hell I wasn't wearing it today. After voting we went uptown to meet up with Melanie (who was wearing her "Yes We Can!" pin) and shopped a little on a rare Tuesday day off with my son.

Work was dead and sucked so bad 'cause we don't have a tv. I had to rely on texts from friends to tell me how the polls were going. I had plans to go see Zack and Miri Make a Porno w/ Mel and the guy that sold us our tickets shook my hand and complimented my shirt. We were early so set in the theater and laughed until the movie started, not worrying about being annoying 'cause there was only one other couple in there and they were on the bottom while we were on the balcony. Right as the lights went down the guy came up to us again and said, "Have a great night, I hope ya'll enjoy the movie, AND BARACK OBAMA WON!"

Then he screamed it across the theater.

I know my state didn't go Democratic but I still feel proud that I voted. And for everyone who cast their ballot today THANK YOU for exercising your right to chose, regardless of if your choice won or not. For the most part I've stayed out of this on my lj with the exception of commenting on others' posts. I just didn't want to impose my views on anyone who either didn't want them or wasn't interested in this election.

I hope to God that this nation made the correct choice. I am happy though that, for now, all this is over.
